Missing children investigations increasingly begin with digital and social media evidence. Part Two of the Missing Children Investigations Webinar Series focuses on writing effective digital and social media warrants and correctly using the data that is returned. Writing clear, legally sound digital and social media warrants is critical to obtaining useful data and avoiding delays or denials from service providers. Digital platforms may return anything from basic subscriber information to complex data files that are difficult to interpret without proper preparation.

Sextortion using technology is an increasing trend seen by law enforcement. Sextortion refers to the crime where someone employs an abuse of power, usually a threat to expose explicit images, in order to coerce a person to do something. This 1-day training will identify the methods and tactics used by offenders, and describe why youth are vulnerable to these tactics. The training will explain the long-term impact of these crimes on victims, offer a victim-centered response, and provide information on reporting these crimes to law enforcement, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the electronic service provider(s). This course will conclude with identifying effective Sextortion prevention messages for youth, parents and educators.

Participants will explore key usage data, search functions, Stolen Device Protection, Screen Time, synced passwords, and learn how Apple Watch® evidence can play a pivotal role in investigations.

This course will explore the communication process, conflict prevention, to help you understand why conflicts occur. Instruction will also cover certain circumstances in which verbal de-escalation techniques may not be appropriate, and provide techniques to resolve such conflicts. Join us to learn how de-escalation techniques and communication skills can potentially defuse tense situations and lead to more successful outcomes. This training does not cover physical intervention techniques.

Participants will learn what to collect beyond photos, text messages, and apps, including usage data and system artifacts. This six-hour facilitated session aims to enhance collaboration across social services, behavioral health, and justice system partners. Aligned with the Nez Perce Tribe’s focus on coordinated, culturally responsive care, the session addresses common challenges in cross-system communication, role alignment, and engagement. Through guided discussion and practical application, participants will develop strategies to improve alignment, enhance communication, and strengthen engagement with justice system and service provider partners. The session emphasizes coordinated, team-based responses that better support individuals and families impacted by substance use, trauma, and co-occurring conditions.

Identify essential equipment and apply appropriate collection procedures for blood, footwear, tire impressions, points of entry, and vehicles. Integrate these factors to strengthen forensic strategy and protect the evidence-based foundation of the case.
