Hosted by Pueblo of Isleta. ** Community Awareness Event and Drug Abuse Detection** training information found under the Pre/Post Training Tab. Training is DOJ approved. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, substance abuse is increasing in America. In a 2012 survey, approximately 23.9 million Americans reported using an illicit drug or abusing a prescription medication in the past month. Staying current on trends can be challenging. Besides law enforcement, social services, and court system personnel, professionals affiliated with tribal justice systems would also benefit from this course including: * Tribal probation * Tribal Leaders * Any professional who needs to be remain current on the most abused drugs in Indian Country

During this FREE community awareness presentation, you will learn about opiates and methamphetamine, two emerging drug trends. Over the past few years, these drugs have gained in popularity and have negatively impacted our community. Please don’t miss this opportunity to become more informed about this growing community concern!

**Drug Abuse Detection Training*** | August 10, 2017 | 8:00 am - 12:00 pm | Isleta Casino Resort Review the 7-step approach to drug influence and identification which includes pulse, horizontal gaze nystagmus, vertical nystagmus, lack of convergence, pupillary comparison, pupil reaction and Romberg stand. Gain understanding in how the eyes react to drug influence and the effects on the central nervous system. Practice what you have learned using hands-on activities. As a law enforcement or parole/probation officer, you will gain the skills you need to recognize impairment caused by the most abused drugs or alcohol. *Pre-Requisite: Drug Identification and Recognition to Support Tribal Justice Training. You may signup for the .5 day Drug Abuse Detection course if you attend the 2 day course and are from the following professions only: law enforcement, probation, EMS, fire, child protection services, parole, and community personnel involved with juveniles.
