Kristen Ziman joined the Aurora police force in 1994 as a sworn officer. She held assignments in patrol, field training, community policing, and investigations as a domestic violence detective. In 2003, she was promoted to sergeant; in 2008, lieutenant; in 2010, commander; and in January 2016, chief of police.

Chief James R. Kruger, Jr. (Oakbrook Police Department ), Presiding President of the Illinois Chiefs of Police Assoc. Presiding President of the Illinois Chiefs of Police Assoc. Chief Kruger is a 35-year veteran of law enforcement. He holds an MSc from National-Louis University and a BA in Management and Leadership from Judson University where he graduated with Highest Distinction. He is a 1994 graduate of Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.

Behind Every Great Officer...Is an Administrative Team that Shines Brighter Than the Badge
Speaker: Master Sgt. Heather Poerio ( Illinois State Police). Heather will share some successful strategies that foster a better understanding of what each position in the department contributes toward the success of a department that values service to the public. You will be exposed to the four principles of procedural justice as it relates to the public, as well as interdepartmental communications. The session will involve active participation and the opportunity to highlight success stories within your own departments.

Speaker: Commander Laura King ( Chief Investigator with the McHenry County State Attorney's Office) This dynamic and humorous presentation will address the realities of working in a frustrating office environment. It is human nature to become accustomed to unhealthy dynamics present in the workplace. Unfortunately, when this occurs, our frustrations cannot only compromise our work performance but also spill lover and negatively impact our family life. This presentation brings the subtle causes of workplace frustration to the surface where they can be recognized and addressed.
