Kristen joined the Aurora police force in 1994 as a sworn officer. She held assignments in patrol, field training, community policing, and investigations as a domestic violence detective. In 2003, she was promoted to sergeant; in 2008, lieutenant; in 2010, commander; and in January 2016, chief of police.

Presentation highlights include: how to lead and inspire those who have been taught to anticipate the worst in everything; be an optimistic leader among a sea of professional pessimists; overcome the damaging effects of “the rule bound” and stoic approaches to the job; develop a personal and organizational action plan to confront the issues; and warning signs of distress and preventative programs to reduce and monitor it.

Chief James R. Kruger, Jr. (Oakbrook Police Department ), Presiding President of the Illinois Chiefs of Police Assoc. Presiding President of the Illinois Chiefs of Police Assoc. Chief Kruger is a 35-year veteran of law enforcement. He holds an MSc from National-Louis University and a BA in Management and Leadership from Judson University where he graduated with Highest Distinction. He is a 1994 graduate of Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.
