Defensive Tactics and Personal Safety Training

Practice skills to effectively resolve disturbances that may arise in community supervision, during home visits or search and seizure, or in a court setting. Review the Disturbance Resolution model, a framework for determining what level of force is necessary and reasonable in various situations. Explore the legal justification for using force as well as situational desirability, threat assessment opportunities, officer versus subject factors and effective communication techniques.

About

**Pending DOJ Approval.** If you learn best by doing, this course offers valuable hands-on physical training where you can practice and demonstrate your ability to perform everything from handcuffing to alternative control methods to protective alternatives. Participants have the opportunity to engage in mock scenarios in the mock village at FVTC's Public Safety Training Center.

What's In It For You

Upon completion of this training, you will be able to: • Execute the proper techniques used to decentralize a subject, escort and compliance holds, delivering focused strikes and application of handcuffs • Assess threats and determine the best resolution for that situation • Explain the legal justification for a probation officer's use of force
