Technology impacts almost every type of investigation today. Uncover the information technology users knowingly and unknowingly leave behind when accessing and using electronic devices. Learn how to covertly strengthen your investigations through gathering personal, public and open source data. Discuss techniques to locate evidence through technologies that can benefit any type of investigation.

Upon completion of this training, you will be able to: * Understand the means by which a person leaves a digital “trail” for investigators on multiple digital devices * Examine how to interpret reports of analyzed devices * Apply practices in extracting device histories for investigations * Identify methods to complete search warrants with open-source and social media providers

Andrew Vallee is Special Agent with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. He is currently a sworn law enforcement officer assigned to the Technical Services Unit and specializes in digital forensics, cellular network analysis, WiFi analysis, and various other technology related disciplines. Prior to joining the TBI, Special Agent Vallee worked as a Detective with the Metro Nashville Police Department. He has worked in law enforcement for 18 years and has been a law enforcement instructor for over 12 years. He is currently appointed to the Scientific Working Group on Digital Evidence (SWGDE) and is a member of the American Academy of Forensic Science - Digital and Multimedia Section.
