Motivational Interviewing (MI) is designed to explore static and dynamic risk factors, elicit information, identify discrepancies in where clients are currently at and where they want to be in their pursuit of lifestyles that are incompatible with continued offending. In this course, you will review, practice and apply motivational interviewing techniques and assess for stages of change with your clients through interactive exercises and role plays. Review the basic definition of trauma and what it means to be trauma-informed. Examine how stress and trauma impact the brain and explore various types of trauma, i.e. inter-generational, childhood, and complex trauma. Gain knowledge & skills in interviewing trauma survivors, and identifying and responding to trauma-based behaviors. Discuss vicarious and secondary trauma (compassion fatigue) and how it affects those in the helping profession. Learn some new self-care tips that can be used to avoid burn-out.
