NCJTC launched a Verbal De-Escalation Training Center in 2024 to serve Tribal Communities throughout the United States and Law Enforcement agencies in the Midwest. Through the NCJTC Verbal De-Escalation Training Center, training will be offered, upon request, at a training location or through live online instructor lead training.
The one-day Verbal De-Escalation and Intervention training is designed to help students recognize persons in conflict and explore methods for de-escalating conflict situations, defusing conflict, and meeting the needs of the person in conflict and maintaining their own personal safety. Throughout the training, attendees will have opportunities to practice skills through practical scenarios. This training will address cultural considerations that are unique to Native Americans and tribal communities to help law enforcement identify when behavior may be a cultural response versus a person in conflict.
This training will be offered as both an in-person and virtual training. To meet the unique needs of tribal communities, training will be flexible to include partners identified by law enforcement who would also need this training to be safe in their professional duties. This may include probation officers, social service workers, etc.
