Learn how courthouse personnel can best share information and keep order in the court, whether it is for routine proceedings, messaging during a crisis, or providing the media/community with information during the continuity of operations following an incident. For the agency in charge of the courthouse, developing a strong and effective social media strategy can build trust and cooperation daily, especially during critical incidents. You will examine courtroom safety related to media and screening best practices, and leave with a media plan template to utilize in your agency.

Upon completion of this training, you will be able to: * Utilize a media coordination plan for court proceedings that attract media interest, which includes staging of media and their equipment, space considerations for news truck/parking, and credentialing procedures (how to decide who is media, setting a media room, creating live broadcasting areas). * Employ social media strategies on a daily basis and during critical incidents * Communicate more effectively with the media and public * Leverage "Rules of the Road" for court coverage

Anne E. Schwartz is an award-winning 30-year veteran print and broadcast journalist, author, and a nationally recognized trainer on the subject of strategic communication and public relations for emergency management and public safety professionals. She received a Webby Award for her work creating MPD’s first-ever brand journalism website. In 1991, she broke the story of Milwaukee serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer and wrote a book on the case, “The Man Who Could Not Kill Enough: The Story of Milwaukee’s Jeffrey Dahmer.” The reporting team was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for their work.
