Courtney worked several years as a forensic technician before becoming a sworn law enforcement officer. Courtney has a Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science and a Master of Science in Digital Forensics from the University of Central Florida. She is a certified computer forensic examiner through the International Association of Computer Investigative Specialists and formerly a certified crime scene investigator through the International Association of Identification. Courtney has years of experience as the lead crime scene investigator in suicides, overdoses, drownings, homicides, kidnappings, and officer involved shootings. She has knowledge and experience in the laboratory disciplines of forensics including development of latent fingerprints, pre-screening of biological samples, and imaging of ballistic evidence. Courtney brings a unique point of view to the team as she has investigated death from the perspective of the first responding deputy on scene, lead crime scene investigator, and as a forensic detective.

Matt holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Carroll University (1998) and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (2001). He began his criminal justice career in 2001 as a Wisconsin Department of Corrections Probation Agent, where he specialized in Pre-Sentence Investigations and the supervision of high-risk offenders reentering the community. In 2004, Matt joined the Milwaukee Police Department as a Patrol Officer, focusing on community policing, gang enforcement, and undercover investigations involving sex crimes and human trafficking. Promoted to Detective in 2014, he served in the Homicide Unit, investigating homicides and officer-involved critical incidents while developing expertise in crime scene processing, interviewing, and interrogation. He also joined the Crisis Negotiation Unit that same year. As a Sergeant beginning in 2020, Matt supervised detectives in both the Gun Violence and Homicide Units and played a key role in training detectives across the Milwaukee Area Investigative Team (MAIT). Promoted to Lieutenant in 2026, he oversees investigative operations across multiple Criminal Investigation Bureau divisions and serves as Commander of the Crisis Negotiation Unit. A respected instructor and mentor, Matt teaches courses in death investigations, critical incident response, and interview techniques, and has served as an adjunct Criminal Justice instructor at Carroll University for over 15 years. He also consults nationally on critical incident response and routinely provides expert courtroom testimony.
