Explore the scope and scale, different types of cases, and hurdles that can be encountered while investigating a child abduction involving a family member. Identify the various resources available. Case examples will be utilized to highlight this information. • Challenges with Missing child cases involving the family
Discuss the legal challenges in the procurement of evidence in the criminal prosecution of missing child investigations. Legal Issues to Discuss: • Background: immediate crisis vs. investigation • Basic 4th Amendment principles • Search warrants • Warrantless searches • Technology and the 4th Amendment • Suspect interrogations (Miranda and associated issues.) • Applications of legal principles to fact patterns (Breakouts)

Distinguish the strategies and considerations for identifying and understanding different ways to corroborate the investigation for the successful prosecution of the responsible party. • Explore the connectivity of the Missing Child Continuum to develop an effective investigative response • Learn the foundational components of how to corroborate the investigation.
This module uses the case study of the abduction and victimization of a child and the subsequent investigation, arrest, and prosecution of the person responsible for the child’s abduction as a basis to examine investigative strategies and case management principles critical to the successful investigation of child abduction cases. Effective case management and lead tracking methodologies are stressed.
Final questions will be discussed. Required post-course activities will be explained, including how course evaluations and certificates of attendance will be processed.
