If you don’t know a crime exists what are the chances it will be identified, investigated or prosecuted? Although statutes criminalizing asphyxia have passed nationally, the initial focus has been on non-fatal strangulation in intimate partner violence. We have discovered additional at-risk populations (including infants, children, adolescents and older adults) and lesser known types of criminal asphyxia (including aquatic abuse, sexual sadism and staged scenes) and the use of co-occurring criminal asphyxia (COCA). This webinar challenges current beliefs, practices and policies and provides awareness to better identify, investigate and prosecute these heinous and potentially fatal crimes for everyone from first responders through prosecution.
