Preventing, recognizing, and responding effectively to child abuse and neglect are top priorities for healthcare professionals. This course is highly focused on two of these topics - recognition and response. At the conclusion of this learning activity, you will be able to discuss best practices in the recognition, care and treatment of child abuse and neglect in health care settings. You will be able to: • Recognize child abuse and neglect in medical settings • Talk with children and their caregivers about possible maltreatment • Understand why and how to report suspected abuse and neglect to appropriate agencies • Participate effectively with multidisciplinary teams that evaluate suspected child abuse and neglect
