Jim began his law enforcement career with the Forest County Sheriff’s office in the summer of 1992. In September of 1993, he began his career with the Dane County Sherifff’s office in Madison, Wisconsin. Jim has worked in several areas within the department and has been assigned to the Court Security Unit since 2007. Jim has had over 700 hours of training including numerous hours of active shooter scenario based training. He currently teaches an inter-departmental training in how to properly respond to court room incidents and active shooter situations. Jim is also involved state wide in training not only other law enforcement officers, but also civilian staff in their response to dealing with various court room incidents as well as developing a proper response and long term strategic planning for active shooter situations. In 2015 he attended a week long training sponsored by the United States Marshal Service in Glynco, Georgia regarding the latest in courtroom security.
