Abusive Head Trauma – Crime Scene to Courtroom

Abusive Head Trauma (AHT) is the severe and sudden injury to a child’s head and brain often leading to permanent injury or death. The injuries are caused by using acceleration and deceleration forces as well as blunt force trauma – both of which are not accidental. Understanding the mechanics of AHT injuries and the more common factors associated with them will assist the investigator in interviewing both witnesses and suspects.

Bradley Graham   Retired - Tacoma Police Department

Bradley spent the last 15 years of his career in the Special Assaults Unit as the senior Detective specializing in investigating child physical abuse, sexual abuse, and child death investigations. In addition to his investigative case load, he was a certified polygraph examiner conducting criminal polygraph examinations. He currently works for the Washington State Attorney General’s Office as a Senior Investigator in the Criminal Justice Division – Sexually Violent Predator Unit. Brad is a certified Instructor for the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission and has been teaching at the Academy since 1995. Brad has a Master of Science degree in Law & Justice from Central Washington University.
