To be approved for the Academy, you must receive Manager approval for this time commitment. Your approving authority information is collected during the registration process for followup purposes.** Please expect to participate in LIVE Online Instructor-Led lectures held each week, as well as discussion boards, practical exercises, independent study, and assessments. We urge you to participate in class during these assigned weekly dates/times to achieve the maximum benefit. Your time commitment is outlined below: * **Each Monday (90 minute Live Lecture):** 10:00 am AK | 11:00 am PT | 12:00 pm MT | 1:00 pm CT | 2:00 pm ET * **Each Thursday (30-60 minute Supplemental Lecture):** 9:00 am AK | 10:00 am PT | 11:00 am MT | 12:00 pm CT | 1:00 pm ET * Each week, you will have up to **3.5 hours** of time on your own to complete assignments and for independent study.

Each week, a new topic will be covered and you will be assigned homework to support that week's training topic. Training topics include: * Tribal Sovereignty, Jurisdiction & Tribal Justice Systems * Introduction to Victim Centered Approaches * Introduction to Evidence Based Practices * Introduction to Motivational Interviewing * Introduction to Screening and Assessment, caseload supervision * Introduction to Case plan development and graduated responses * Introduction to Supervision Strategies (applying conditions) * Introduction to Restorative Justice * Introduction to Understanding Offender Populations and Special Conditions Considerations * Understanding Offender Populations and Special Condition Considerations: Supervising Introduction to Persons Who Suffer with Mental Illness and Co-Occurring Disorders * Introduction to Drug Abuse Recognition and Substance Abuse – Drug Identification and Effects on Behavior * Courtroom Hearings and Testimony * Report Writing Upon completion of this academy, you will be able to: (at Introductory level) • Employ effective communication techniques with probationers to improve safety and reduce incarceration • Identify substance abuse, commonly used drugs, and the effects of drugs on behavior • Apply practical knowledge when supervising high risk offender populations such as probationers with mental illness, domestic violence offenses, sex offenses, or alcohol and substance abuse • Apply motivational interviewing practices to promote behavior change

Eligibility requirement: **Registrants must be employed by a tribal agency or if a consultant / contractor, endorsed by a tribal government. Priority is given to active probation personnel and other professionals responsible for community supervision.** Students are required to have working internet with audio and a working microphone.
