Byron retired as a Sergeant from the Dallas Police Department at 37 years, after leading the Child Exploitation Unit, which he founded, for over 25 years. He founded and supervised several groundbreaking initiatives within the unit of 20 detectives which created an unprecedented sharing of information and resources for sexually exploited children’s cases. This included the country’s first ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children) Unit, based on his management of Operation Landslide—the first multinational CSAM investigation of its kind. He also created a High-Risk Victims and Trafficking Unit that identified and recovered an average of 200 high-risk children annually, filing hundreds of cases against traffickers and exploiters. He established a Sex Offender Registration Unit, which diligently tracked and monitored sex offenders in the Dallas area.
