Explore evolving trends in human trafficking and practical strategies for prevention, intervention, and prosecution. Participants will examine risk factors, investigative approaches, victim support strategies, the role of technology in investigations, and community-based solutions. Special focus is given to strengthening investigation and prosecution efforts. Through case studies and collaboration exercises, attendees will develop actionable plans to enhance responses in their own communities.

Registration Deadline: October 13, 2025 This is an in person **PILOT** course and is being offered at a special introductory rate of $120 per person. Pre-registration is required. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to: * Define key concepts in human trafficking, including sex trafficking, labor trafficking, and sexual exploitation of children * Identify investigative and prosecution techniques used in human trafficking cases, including victim-centered and comprehensive investigative approaches for gathering evidence and completing human trafficking operations * Explain the structure and purpose of Human Trafficking Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDTs), including the identification of key members, mission statements, and shared values for effective collaboration. What works- what doesn’t * Explore person-centered, trauma-informed (PCTI) approaches for building rapport, conducting interviews, and providing ongoing support services to trafficking victims * Review protocols for MDT coordination through case studies and role-playing exercises that simulate multi-disciplinary responses to trafficking cases * Consider strategies for community engagement that encourage buy-in, foster support, and ensure active participation in anti-trafficking efforts * Identify signs of secondary traumatic stress and compassion fatigue among MDT members and create a practical plan for promoting resiliency and wellness both individually and as a team

David Weiss leads a specialized team dedicated to investigating and prosecuting all forms of human trafficking, including sex trafficking of adults and children, as well as labor trafficking. He also serves as the law enforcement lead and co-chair of the U.S. Department of Justice-funded Brooklyn Human Trafficking Task Force, a multi-disciplinary collaboration addressing trafficking across New York City19. Since beginning his career in 2006, David has handled a wide spectrum of violent crime cases and, since 2014, has focused exclusively on human trafficking. He has prosecuted numerous traffickers for exploiting both children and adults and has led multi-agency operations resulting in the closure of hotels used for trafficking and the arrest of their owners. In 2017, he was cross-designated as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, bringing federal sex trafficking charges in a high-profile case involving underage victims. David is recognized nationally and internationally for his expertise in evidence-based, victim-centered prosecutions, regularly presenting to law enforcement, prosecutors, and service providers on best practices, including prosecuting cases without victim testimony. He has testified before the New York State Assembly as a subject matter expert on legislative reforms for trafficking survivors. His work has earned him multiple honors, including the 2024 Homeland Security Investigations New York Field Office Prosecutor of the Year Award and the 2025 Freedom Award from LifeWay Network for his leadership and impact in the fight against human trafficking.
