Joseph Schreiner
Dean of Social Sciences and Criminal Justice at the Community College of Denver
Joseph Schreiner is a retired law enforcement officer with nearly 15 years of service across municipal, resort, and metropolitan agencies. His career included roles with the Mesa County Parole Department, Gunnison Police Department, Vail Police Department, Denver District Attorney’s Office, and Mead Police Department, where he rose to Senior Detective and later Administrative Sergeant overseeing training and investigative operations. His investigative focus centered on sex crimes, human trafficking, homicide, and sexual assault, with collaboration across local, national, and international partners including the FBI, Secret Service, IRS, NFLPA, and Interpol. He received extensive advanced training in defensive tactics, firearms, emergency response, threat assessment, interview and interrogation, body-language analysis, and digital investigations.
Dr. Schreiner holds a BA in Criminal Justice from Colorado Mesa University, an MS in Criminology magna cum laude from St. Joseph’s University with an emphasis in Intelligence and Crime Analysis, and a PhD in Criminal Justice with a specialization in Law and Public Policy from Walden University, graduating summa cum laude in 2025. His dissertation on vicarious sexual trauma among law enforcement investigators was nominated for Walden’s Dissertation of the Year, and he was also nominated for the university’s Outstanding Leadership Award.
Since 2021, Dr. Schreiner has taught criminal justice, homeland security, psychology, and forensic science while consulting with law enforcement agencies and private organizations on training, policy, and investigative practices. He currently serves as the Dean of Social Sciences and Criminal Justice at the Community College of Denver and was named the college’s Faculty of the Year in 2025. He also founded and leads a law enforcement peer-to-peer support group focused on officer mental health and wellness, and volunteers in community service and youth athletics.
