Strong mentors play a vital role in nurturing resilience, supporting healing, and strengthening our collective wellbeing. This workshop explores how mentorship—especially the mentorship of men—can be a powerful force in preventing violence against women and girls. This webinar is part of the Supporting and Working with Men as Allies and Advocates to End Violence and Sexual Assault Against Women and Girls in Tribal Communities series.

This is webinar 2 of the **Supporting and Working with Men as Allies and Advocates to End Violence and Sexual Assault Against Women and Girls in Tribal Communities** Webinar Series Participants will learn practical steps to identify, recruit, and support mentors who embody Tribal community values and model healthy, respectful relationships. The session will highlight specific ways to engage men as mentors, advocates and allies, while reinforcing their responsibility to promote safety, honor, and dignity for women, girls, and all community members. By uplifting traditional roles, teachings, and community connections, this workshop offers clear tools for advocates seeking to build stronger networks of mentors who help ensure women and girls are protected, valued, and able to thrive.

At the end of this session, participants will be able to: * Explain the concept of “Being a Good Relative” and its connection to Indigenous teachings, values, and community wellbeing. * Recognize the importance of engaging men as mentors in supporting the safety and dignity of women and girls. * Demonstrate approaches for guiding men to serve as mentors, allies, and advocates for nonviolence.

Clayton Small, Ph.D.   CEO, Native PRIDE

Dr. Small has been an elementary, middle, and high school principal on reservations and in urban communities. He has been a faculty member at the University of New Mexico, University of Montana, and Gonzaga University. He served as a CEO for Indian Health Services and directed several non- profit organizations. His organization, Native P.R.I.D.E., provides prevention, wellness, healing, and leadership training throughout Indian Country. He has developed prevention programs for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Indian Health Services, SAMHSA, and the Department of Justice. Dr. Small and his staff have provided cultural services in partnership with the State of NM, including Talking Circles and Sweat Lodges for Native youth incarcerated in Albuquerque, NM, as well as, working with Native American incarcerated men. He has comprehensive knowledge and experience in community mobilization, strategic visioning, Indian education, organizational development, youth leadership, prevention, wellness/healing, team-trust building, cultural competency, and creating positive change. He is the CEO for the American Indian non-profit, Native PRIDE that has three outstanding trauma informed, equity and culture-based prevention curriculums entitled, Native HOPE, Being a Good Relative and The Good Road of Life that are delivered throughout Indian Country. Dr. Small conducts training and facilitation nationally and internationally. His programs offer leadership and hope for American Indian, Alaska Native, and First Nations people.
